Silken Windhounds

The Silken Windhound is a stunning rare breed of sighthound and the only sighthound of American origin. The first Silkens west of Texas (the breed's founding state) started arriving from Kristull Ranch in 1999. The largest population of Silkens in the world is currently in California.

The Silken Windhounds of California (SWC) was the first regional club to be fully sanctioned by the International Silken Windhound Society.
The club has been organizing events since 2001 and has continued to grow rapidly.

Club events include ISWS sanctioned official shows, racing events, rare breed shows, ASFA lure coursing as an ASFA club, straight racing as a LGRA club, open field coursing, fun runs on the beach, puppy parties and lectures.

Although Silken Windhounds are not yet recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club they are officially recognized by the United Kennel Club (UKC), the American Sighthound Field Association (ASFA), the Large Gazehound Racing Association (LGRA) and the National Open Field Coursing Association (NOFCA).

The Silken Windhound breed is also participating in UC Davis' VGL genetic research that will expand the scope of scientific knowledge for all canines!

This sleek, fast, and beautiful breed is an incredible companion hound and a fleet-footed athelete.
